Geneva, Switzerland, March 4, 2022 – The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva has passed on March 4 a resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling for the “swift and verifiable” withdrawal of Russian troops and setting up a commission of inquiry on violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Ukraine.
CIVIC’s Director for Europe, Beatrice Godefroy, delivered a video statement to the Council to alert on the increased use of armed tactics aimed at causing massive civilian casualties. She called on the international community to adopt urgent measures to protect the lives of civilians in Ukraine and those fleeing the country.
