Nairobi/ The Hague, November 7, 2022 – Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) welcomes the announcement of permanent ceasefire between the Government of Ethiopia and TPLF forces during talks led by the African Union last week in Pretoria, South Africa.

CIVIC is pleased that both parties committed to uphold the principles of international humanitarian law.

CIVIC is also encouraged that both parties were in Kenya on Monday to determine the details to implement the comprehensive ceasefire. Given the countless civilians that have suffered during the two-year long conflict, CIVIC strongly encourages the Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF leadership to quickly implement all terms of the ceasefire with particular attention paid to efforts to better protect civilians and support those who have suffered through the transitional justice process.
