This week, CIVIC joined 20 international non-governmental organizations operating in the Central African Republic (CAR) in a statement welcoming the Security Council’s November 12th resolution renewing the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in CAR (MINUSCA). The statement highlights the importance of the continued prioritization of the protection of civilians task in the mandate. It also raises some major protection concerns that should be considered over the course of the next year and sets out recommendations to MINUSCA’s leadership on key steps the Mission should take in order to ensure that the Mission is capable and willing to continue to protect civilians in CAR.
