Viacheslav Popov is a Protection Officer with CIVIC’s Ukraine team. Prior to CIVIC, he served as an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and in 2015-2021 worked as Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) officer in the conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine (Donbas). He was deeply involved in training of Ukrainian CIMIC operators on safety/security procedures, negotiations, and conflict resolution, and took part in creating a robust safety civil-military environment in Donbas. Additionally, he took part in establishing three Civil-Military Joint Centers in Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk, and Mariupol. In the time of military service, he participated in more than 20 trainings, courses, and seminars in Ukraine and abroad in the areas of international security/cooperation, CIMIC, and counterterrorism.
Viacheslav holds a MA degree from Military Defence University of Ukraine and a MA degree from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, USA (curriculum – Civil-Military Relations).
