A seasoned safety and security professional with a combined 4 years of humanitarian experience, before joining CIVIC Talitha Yusuf was a roving safety and security team leader with Danish Refugee Council for both Borno, Yobe, and Abuja field offices, as part of her daily schedules; she oversaw and built the capacity of a team of safety officers, guard force management, information and intelligence gathering, issued out safety advisories, support international visitors, risk assessments and evaluation, weekly and monthly reports, amongst other responsibilities. Talitha’s previous experience was with International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) as Safety Advisor Assistant, where she was in charge of collection and verification of safety information, conducting regular field trips in order to develop local expertise of the context, drafting weekly power point presentation for INGOs among other responsibilities.

Talitha also worked as Armed Violence Reduction Officer/Facilitator with Danish Demining Group and Danish Refugee Council Borno field office, where she was actively involved in enhancing community safety and conflict mediation capacities by facilitating Community Safety Plan (CSP), Community Police Dialogue Cooperation (CPDC). As a certified conflict mediator, Talitha was trained to understand the different personality types and how to effectively communication with people in different sphere of life.

Talitha’s first humanitarian experience was with Save the Children International, as Child Protection Information Management System Assistant (CPIMS) where she was involved in child protection case management activities in camps and host communities, Talitha successfully case managed about two thousand separated, unaccompanied and child at risk children. Talitha trained and supervised three CPIMS assistants and more than twenty case workers with scheduled activities that included teaching case workers to fill case management forms correctly among other responsibilities.

Talitha is familiar with Nigerian security terrains especially the Lake Chad region that has been affected by insurgency and has worked in hostile environments like Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, and Jos.

Talitha is a member of the:

  • Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC);
  • Humanitarian Security Managers (HUMSEC); and
  • American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS).

Talitha’s passion to serving humanity has fueled her love for rendering humanitarian services with no
restriction to location.
