Abigail Gérard Baldé is a Peacekeeping Researcher at CIVIC. She conducts research on the protection of civilians and human rights in the framework of UN peacekeeping operations. Before joining CIVIC, Abigail worked as Sahel Program and Advocacy Officer at the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) where she documented human rights violations against civilians and human rights defenders in Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad and Niger. She also worked for four years as a journalist covering Africa for the French press.

Abigail has an extensive knowledge of contemporary politics and conflicts in the Sahel and Central Africa. She holds an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies of London (SOAS) and Master’s degrees in Political Science, International Relations and Geopolitics from Paris X Nanterre and the Catholic University of Paris.
