Abacha is a Program Manager in CIVIC’s Nigeria’s office. Abacha has over ten years of progressive work experience with international development organizations, mainly in the areas of community-level engagement, adaptive programming, preventing/countering violent extremism, community reintegration, and community driven development.
Before joining CIVIC, Abacha was a Senior Program Manager with Creative Associates International, working on implementing a USAID/OTI funded Nigeria Lake Chad Basin (NLCB) Program. He was responsible for the development, implementation, and close-out of a portfolio of activities contributing to achieving the strategic program objectives. Some of these objectives included increasing individuals’ and communities’ resilience to extremists’ action and strengthening the ability of moderate actors for stabilization in the Lake Chad Basin. He also worked with the same organisation as a Program Development Manager for the North East Regional Initiatives (NERI) program, where he was responsible for creating a program development strategy and leading in the implementation of flexible, innovative, and rapid programming activities on countering violent extremism in Northeast Nigeria.
Prior to Creative Associates International, Abacha worked with a World Bank assisted Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) in Yobe State, Nigeria, where he facilitated communities to undertake needs assessments and prioritize and implement micro-projects that sustainably increase low-income individuals’ access to social and natural resource infrastructure services. He also trained the Community Project Management Committee in project implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
Abacha holds a Masters Degree in Public Relations and first Degree in Mass Communications from Bayero University, in Kano, Nigeria.
