On February 17, 2022, CIVIC Europe Director Beatrice Godefroy moderated a side event on international humanitarian law (IHL) as part of Africa-Europe Week and the 6th European Union – African Union summit. Bringing policy makers and actors from civil society, the European Union, the African Union, and Member States, this side event addressed how the lack of respect for IHL by parties to conflict is one of the main causes of suffering for civilians. The event offered practical ways to strengthen IHL compliance and civilian protection at the national level – including through partnerships between multilateral, national, and local actors.
