Federico Borello, Executive Director of Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), today announced the creation of a new position, Senior Director, Policy & Advocacy, as the first step in the organization’s new three-year strategy focusing on innovation, program delivery, and evaluation aimed at better protecting more civilians in conflicts around the world.

The new position will be an integral part of the senior management team and responsible for the development and strengthening of core expertise such as research, gender, and military engagement. It will also build continuity in CIVIC’s communications, advocacy, and policy work.

“When I came to CIVIC just over three years ago I was inspired by the incredible work and was challenged by the board to grow the organization to reach more civilians in more conflict zones,” Borello said. “We have focused this past year on sustainably growing the organization with our anchor being the development of our new strategic plan. As part of that plan, I’m proud to announce this new position, which I believe will strengthen our organization, our work, and our program reach.”

Marla Keenan, CIVIC’s current Senior Director, Programs, takes over the position today. With her team of advisors, she will work closely with a new Senior Director, Programs and her/his team providing expertise and additional capacity.

“It’s been an honor to be part of the amazing growth here at CIVIC over the last three years,” said Keenan. “I am thrilled to be stepping into this new role and looking forward to focus on building CIVIC’s role as a key voice and innovative leader in the area of protection of civilians.”
